Dedication of the plaque was held on Memorial Day 1943
Veterans and their auxiliaries attended Memorial services at the Center Methodist Church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock in a body. The Rev. David Carter is pastor of the Church. Mrs. Flavel M. Gifford, president of the Improvement Association, opened the brief ceremony at the Town Hall at 2 p.m. and Miss Catherine Jordan, who served as president of the association last year when it was voted to purchase the plaque, presented it to the town. Dr. Harold E. Kerwin, chairman of the board of selectmen, accepted the memorial in behalf of the town and Authur S. Richards, commandeer of Post 166, American Legion, voiced the veterans' appreciation. The Fairhaven High School Band, under the direction of Miss Elizabeth Hastings, played opening and closing selections.
