In September, 1927, the Massachusetts Society, Sons of the American Revolution held a field day at the Fort and placed a bronze tablet on one of the ledges to commemorate the first naval engagement of the Revolutionary War. The memorial commemorates the first Naval battle of the revolutionary war, fought on May 14, 1775 about 5 miles South of the Town of Fairhaven.
